Lately I have been meeting more and more professionals with deep national security experience, many of whom are navigating major career transitions.

When a familiar path ends, stepping into unfamiliar territory can feel uncertain. But forward motion, even if imperfect, is often better than standing still while waiting for clarity.

I have seen this pattern before: persistence combined with meaningful connection leads to breakthroughs.

The United States and our allies need this talent now more than ever. This is especially true in the defense and space sectors, where legal, operational, and ethical complexity continues to increase.

As my old martial arts instructor used to say, “Where the line ends, the circle begins.” In other words, when one door closes, a new and often unconventional door may appear.

Sometimes you have to build that door yourself.

If you are part of the national security community and have reached the end of the line, it may be time to look for the circle. And if you are building something new in this space, I am always open to connecting.
